About the R&D Workshop

  • Objectives:
    The principal objective is to apply the knowledge and skills that the students acquired in their classes by elaborating solutions for real-life practical problems presented by various clients.
  • Description:
    • Each project is guided by a supervisor from the assigned client. The students discuss design choices and the problems encountered with the supervisor and periodically report the advancement of the work.
    • The project administration is done by the workshop coordination at UniNE to facilitate the clients’ task.
    • The students must deliver a fully documented solution (implementation, experiment, analysis, ...) to the client.
    • The students discuss design choices and the problems encountered with the supervisor and periodically report the advancement of the work.
    • The presentations and discussions of the advancement of the project in class are an integral part of the course.
    • The projects are done individually or in a group of two students.
    • Each student can expect to work around 300 hours on the project during the semester.
  • Our students:
    • The R&D Workshop is part of the curriculum of the Swiss Joint Master of Science in Computer Science (JMCS) of the universities of Bern, Fribourg and Neuchâtel.
    • The students have a Bachelor in Computer Science or an equivalent formation.
    • The students are not paid for the Workshop, but are awarded 10 ECTS upon successful completion of the project.

Propose a project

  • The R&D Workshop is an excellent opportunity to supervise and enjoy the skills of young computer scientists, mathematicians and software developers in a structured setting.

Entrepreneurship

  • As part of the R&D Workshop, the UniNE Technology Transfer Office will organize a workshop on entrepreneurship:
    • Preparing your project ideas for business (confidentiality, intellectual property rights, open source)
    • Shaping your business idea by developing and presenting a business plan
